The Pirates of Penzance
(The Slave of Duty)

The Pirates of Penzance was first performed in 1879 and is still as popular today as when first presented. It combines a ludicrous plot and clever comic lyrics with sublime music and is in part a parody of 19th century opera, most apparent in Mabel's songs.
